Here’s Part 4! Thank you so much for the wonderful feedback on this story and I’m sorry I took too long to update it, but this one was really hard to write. I am freaking out tbh because I rewrote it so many times, I don’t feel sure about it at all. I hope you enjoy it in spite of its weirdness. There’s some smuttiness, so close your eyes :PSynopsis: Archie is about to marry the wrong person and Rae and Finn, who can’t stand each other since they met 10 years before, find themselves in Malta trying to stop the wedding, and things get out of hand for everyone involved. There were different kinds of hurt. Finn was sure he had felt every single one of them before. The throbbing of his bloody knuckles when he punched 3 idiots in college, the burn in the same arm when he received a potassium pump way too fast, the heaviness on his rib cage when he held back tears after his mom left her family behind, the day his dad died…
The difference now is that his misery was quiet but wasn’t going away anytime soon, not when he knew she was out there, existing. Not when he knew it had been his fault. But he had never been a man of steady relationships and didn’t have anything to offer. Still, the dull pain placed just a bit on the left side of his chest kept stinging and aching. It had been 7 weeks since Malta, not sure if he wanted to dissect what he had done to them or how to forget everything and get back to being solitary and sullen Finn.
St. Julian’s, Malta. August, 2006
“Is she here?” He tried to push the door open, but Chloe had kept the door guard on, making impossible for him to go inside.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about” She was visibly nervous, avoiding looking directly into his eyes.
Finn was worn out. Things had gotten messed up few hours before in that sail trip and now Archie and Rae were mad at him. And they were right to be, he was the one behind that brilliant plan after all and Stacey had been so delighted to discover it was just a farce that she spent the entire hour on the boat laughing as a maniac. As soon as they had arrived to St. Julian’s Bay pier, Archie told him he had one day to decide if he was going to be a normal best man because he was fed up with his nonsense. And Rae had run away, not once tried to look back at him. And he didn’t follow her, thinking it was better if she had some time for herself. He needed to collect his thoughts too, what it meant now for them to “go back to normal”. Their history was easy to summarize in 2 years of imposed friendship, 8 years of silence, 4 weeks of calls (to sort out the trip) and two days together in Malta, but for some reason he couldn’t let go. He felt absorbed by her, the girl whose 2 year relationship with Archie he tried not to take seriously because they were so different that they couldn’t possibly be good together, but it bugged him that it felt something else, something more. He wandered on the water front side walk for a couple of hours, thinking about the past with her. Like the time he had knocked down those 3 cunts at college when he heard they called her “magic fanny” in the toilets because they couldn’t understand how she had scored one of the most popular lads; they tried to blackmail Finn after that, saying they would spread rumours about the two seeing each other behind Archie’s back but it turned out for worse for Simmy, who was left walking funny for weeks after his empty threat. They didn’t say a word about the incident and Rae never found out. Finn convinced himself he had done it because she was kind of a friend, even if he didn’t understand why she was with Archie. She was world class, funny, beautiful… he never wanted to admit it but, now that he had, he knew it had been stupid to kiss and hug her. Then again he didn’t regret any of those things. Finn felt ready to talk to her and when he went back to their room later that night, he found her things were gone.
And that’s how he was now trying to break into Chloe’s room, sure that he had heard Rae’s voice inside. “Bollocks you don’t, I need to talk to her”
Finn’s pained expression in this moment haunts me. The idea that Rae would tear herself down seems to hurt him to his very core. As if he is thinking, “I just wish you could see yourself the way I do.”

there are 7 billion people on the planet and you only interact with like a fraction of a fracton of them in your lifetime. imagine how many incredible friendships or relationships you could have but you’ll never meet or get to know those people
